This Is Not A Border
with Lara Marlowe and Ahdaf Soueif
Two of the most important voices in reportage and literature, French correspondent with The Irish Times Lara Marlowe, and novelist, critic and political activist Ahdaf Soueif come together for this special event to explore their respective worlds. With stellar careers as fiction writers and journalists, they have much to talk about including Ahdaf’s oeuvre, Palestine, the collapse of the Arab Spring, the present state of the Arab world, particularly Egypt under Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and of course, the Festival theme of the joys and perils of Speaking to Strangers. Unquestionably, a Festival highlight.
This Is Not a Border is a collection of essays, poems, and sketches from some of the world's most distinguished artists, responding to their experiences at PalFest and marking its 10 year existence. This Is Not a Border celebrates the role of this unique festival in strengthening artistic links with the rest of the world and re- affirming, in the words of Edward Said, "the power of culture over the culture of power."
